Login Captcha
Another hack for the Limbo has been released. This is for the login module and component. Like the previously released hacks, this requires installation of the simplecaptcha class in order to function properly.

The simplecaptcha class requires the GD library to be installed, if you don't have this installed in your website, a text-only version is also available by request at the Limboforge Forum as this text-only simplecaptcha is not for public release.

A Secure and Spam Resistant Contact Component
This is the second of hacks for components and modules integrating the Simple Captcha class to make Limbo forms more spam resistant and secure. This hack of the contact component has been made to be more secure using three (3) methods of checking the information entered into the contact form by users. First, the Simple Captcha has been integrated into the contact component to at least minimize if not eradicate spam. Second, file extensions of attachment files are checked then compared to a valid list of files extensions. Third, the attachment files are checked if these are valid image files.

Guest Book Captcha

The installation of the Guestbook Captcha requires two steps.

  1. Upload the Simple Captcha Class into the classes/simplecaptcha directory.
  2. Install the Guest Book Captcha Hack using the backend menu or upload the files using FTP and overwriting your existing Guest Book Files.

Important:
The GuestBook Captcha will not display the captcha code or function properly without the simplecaptcha class installed.

Limitations:
Cookies are not activated for the GuestBook form . This blanks the forms if an invalid Captcha is entered by the user.

Limbo-CMS Forum at LimboForge

The official Limbo-CMS site has been down for more than two(2) weeks now without any update coming from Vikas or Ccobain. This includes the official forum. Instead of having a temporary Limbo-CMS forum, gergero and I, decided to have a forum to officially document any problems related to Limbo-CMS.

This forum will start where the Limbo-CMS official forum has left out. Please feel free to visit LimboForge Forum.

Just how it feels to last a year?

Limbo-CMS is barely a year old when I discovered it using a search engine. I was then looking for a simple content management system to be used in a community website. I planned to use Mambo but webspace limitations is a primary factor in the decision making. I have already started programming for said site when I stumbled into Limbo, then called Lite Mambo which I tried and effectively used it.

It was a success, I was able to create the website quickly and presented it into the community leaders who unanimously approved. I was really very happy and enthusiatstic then that as a sign of gratitude, Limbo Freaks, a Tribute to Limbo came into being. Limbo-CMS saved me much time in the creation of the website.

A year ago, the Limbo-CMS was despised, most experienced webmasters called it a buggy CMS. But for a newbie like me, it was great, it has given me much of what I needed. Text database, file manager, guest book, and other good add-ons were provided into the download package. The support though, was very minimal, forum members is just a few hundreds with only about less than 20% are active. Almost every member knows anybody then, discussions was so interactive and beneficial to Limbo and its community. It was also that time that I decided to make Limbo Freaks a Limbo-CMS support site.

The buggy release 1.0.2 was bit by bit becoming the stable release that it is supposed to be through the inputs of the forum members. There are no add-ons available except for the integral modules and components shipped with the release 1.0.2 package. Limbo Freaks has started creating add-ons based on forum members request. And time have evolved since then that Limbo Freaks owns the copyrights for some of the most used add-ons for the Limbo-CMS. Limbo Freaks also played an active role in the creation of the Limbo Wiki.

This was the start of a passion to support the Limbo-CMS despite not earning any single cent from this activity. That is the truth behind it. This is not my main source of living, I have a good paying career in the oil and gas industry. Web design is just a hobby to make my dull moments passed by for me and at the same time share some ideas to help aspiring webmasters learn the trade. The numerous ads that you are seeing in Limbo Freaks is just a means to make the site self-supporting, thus by just visiting Limbo Freaks you are already helping the sustenance of this website.

This month, Limbo Freaks is celebrating its one year anniversary. I just feel very happy that Limbo Freaks lasted a year. There are ups and downs, like the Limbo-CMS that it was supporting, Limbo Freaks was also despised. As the saying goes, it is just difficult to please everybody. I am aware though, that there are a number of promising webmasters out there that find Limbo Freaks as a good source on information, add-ons and tutorials alike, about Limbo-CMS. I would like to take this opportunity also to thank the Limbo Forum contributors and supporters of Limbo Freaks, Konstantin Tarasov (KVT), Pimmetje, Key, Vasile Rusnac and to many others whom I am not able to mention.

In its sophomore year, I wish Limbo will still be able to support Limbo-CMS the way it has performed in its first year of existence. With the upcoming release of a better, more secure, faster Limbo-CMS 1.0.5, Limbo Freaks will be releasing more tutorials, documentations and add-ons. I wish that the viewership of Limbo Freaks will become wider this year.
